The CO Sun: Colorado Senate kills languishing land-use bill from Jared Polis that aimed to boost affordable housing

This year’s session of the Colorado legislature ended last night without passing any version of Senate Bill 213. SB 213 was an attempt to ram through an expansive and overreaching bill to usurp local control and give most land use decisions throughout the state to an unelected organization within the State Government. This bill was a ‘worse version’ of the Fort Collins Land Development Code that was repealed through a citizens referendum. Unfortunately, both the City of Fort Collins and the State Legislature seem to be committed to trying again over the next several months (City of Fort Collins) and in early 2024 (the State.) The repeal of the LDC and the inactive on SB 213 isn’t the end of the process, but really just the end of the beginning.
