Similar developer giveaways that our City Council passed recently in the form of a new land use code are occurring in other cities too, as part of a nationally-organized, pro-developer/YIMBY agenda whose mantra is "Build, Baby Build" at any cost. Developer-backed YIMBY groups execute extremely deceptive marketing tactics, primarily under the disingenuous guise of affordable housing, and by green washing the impacts of urbanization, luxury apartment construction, and land use zoning deregulation. Take a look at this short documentary which depicts community groups in Austin, Texas who are fighting back too, as they experience rampant construction of dense luxury housing, and the associated skyrocketing costs of housing, property taxes, and living that make Austin even less affordable for ordinary residents. These groups are fighting for the soul of their City, and against the same poor governance by local City officials as we are in Fort Collins.
